I know, I know, I missed you too… It has been a busy few days since I last sat down at the keyboard to make a post but I have been visiting, and sightseeing and stuff and decided to take it easy while here in Portland with Jason and Kate. I will do a brief post today with an overview of the visit so far. Our first full day here was the 4th of July and we had a great day and partied with Jason’s neighbors Chris and Jenny, and their friends.
Great 4th of July with hot dogs and potato salad and all you would expect and more…it was also a birthday celebration for Jenny. Since then it has been a whirlwind of activity. Portland is a fascinating town, we have visited Powell’s Books, the worlds largest independent book store, eaten at a great local brewery (Deschutes, I had an Elk burger) and stopped at Voo Doo Donuts (thanks Jim) where I had a Fruit Loops Donut. Although I am not a fan of fruit loops I just couldn’t pass it up, just too decadent.
Yesterday morning we ate at the local diner for breakfast ‘The Cameo Pancakes & Steak’, another one of those great places that just don’t show up in any guide but should be at the to top of any list. Pancakes by the acre, I had the 1/4 acre pancake and it was larger than an LP!
Yesterday afternoon Carol and I drove up to Mount St. Helens as the kids were otherwise occupied. What an amazing place. I remember when Mt St. Helens blew back in 1980 and everyone said the this area would be dead for decades, but nature reclaimed the area in months, it’s not the same geography, but everything sprouted and grew. I flew my drone off a 2000 foot cliff, nerve wracking - but exciting, and got a decent view of Mt St Helens. I don’t know what is on today's agenda but am looking forward to more time with the ‘kids’. . . .
