Up early and out in good time as we wanted to stop at a place along route 9 heading toward Calgary for a hike. Horseshoe Canyon was supposed to be a super place for a hike, but the entrance stairs were under construction . . .

Like most mornings these days we had a hearty breakfast and went in search of adventure, and we seem to be right in the heart of it here in Drumheller. We started off at a Tim Hortons, ‘cause that’s what you do, and headed up the valley.

Today started off with a bit of a disappointment. We knew we are in the ‘badlands’ of Alberta but it all looked the same as the prairie of Saskatchewan, maybe a bit more rollie pollie, but pretty much the same. We had decided to skip Dinosaur Provincial Park and head to Drumheller to. . .

Leaving Regina we filled our tank and continued our westward movement with the destination of Medicine Hat. Along the way we had some great discoveries. We stopped in the town of Moose Jaw, what a great name for a town, where we visited. . .

A short post today as it was a travel day. Leaving Winnipeg we again pointed the car toward the western horizon on the Trans-Canada Highway. Once again we started off in the rain and in 45 degree weather..

Our day started with coffee and the weather on TV. The said ‘a chance of showers’ - well we had about four hours and four miles of cold showers, and of course wind. We drove from the hotel down to an area called ‘The Forks’, where the Assiniboine and the Red Rivers come together. 

A couple of travel days. It was a very cold night, but we were fairly comfortable in our sleeping bags on the bed but I didn’t want to get out of bed.  I cooked up some pancakes and before breaking down camp Carol decided to dip her toes into Lake Superior.

Another two day entry. I am typing this on Tuesday afternoon outside the campground laundry and shower facility.. laundry gets done when we can. Yesterday was a long day. We left ‘the soo’ by about 10:30 ...

Another good night sleep, this time at the Hawberry Motel in Little Current, and some breakfast and a bit of blogging and video editing we hit the road to explore Manitoulin Island. Today however I am writing about both day 5 and day 6 as I know this will be the last time for wifi for a few days as we are heading to the woods again tomorrow.

After great nights sleep, and hot shower. And the breakfast special in a hotel in Waterloo we hit the road again. We made it almost a mile down the road when a Walmart appeared and knowing there were s few empty corners in the car we were compelled to stop and buy just a few more things. Leaving Waterloo we stopped for ice and gas..$1.05 Canadian per liter . . what ever the hell that means.

What a good nights’ sleep we had. We both woke up refreshed today. The air mattress was firmer, we were warmer and and we both slept well for a change, and the fact that there were no raccoons visiting during the night helped as well. I was up early, made coffee, took a short hike around the campground and returned to start then next blog post

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, the day started early with me at the keyboard and coffee in hand. The camp ground was foggy early in the morning as the night had been chilly. First night out on the air mattress, I should have refilled it..it had gotten a bit soft. . .

I am actually writing this entry on day two. It is early morning. Carol and I have had our coffee and a second pot is on the stove. I will do a run-through of yesterday’s activities..quite a first day all in all. Alarms sounded at four AM, an uncivilized time if ever there was one. . .

Today started early running a errand with a friend and then the efforts went into sorting and packing and trying to figure out all of those last minute things so we don't forget anything.

There are days when I clearly don't know what I am doing. The past 24 hours has been that kind of day.

This weekend we did our first trial run of the camping experience. There were a lot of things that worked and a lot of things that just did not work.

Retirement. Just what does that really mean. Carol and I have reached that point and have decided that we just do not have any idea about the concept of retirement. We both seem to be. . .
